Classical All-State is a NHMEA Festival made to bring together the best musicians in the state and show off their talents. Classical All-State focuses on songs and instruments that are used in classical music, seen in the name. To participate in Classical All-State a student must prepare an audition piece and get a higher score than other people auditioning to secure a spot.
Bow High School has two new students who have never participated in this music festival before: Colin FitzPatrick, a senior, and Molly McKinnon, a freshman.
"What instrument or voice part did you audition for at Classical All State?"
Molly: "I auditioned for Soprano at Classical All State."
Colin: "I auditioned for Cello and Clarinet!"
"What made you want to audition for Classical All State?"
Molly: "Mrs. Rockenhauser pushed me to audition for All State because she thought I could do it!"
Colin: "Because it's hard and it was a chance to get better and a chance to get to play with people who are better!"
"Is there anyone you would like to give thanks to for getting you into the place you are now?"
Molly: "I would like to thank Mrs. Rockenhauser, Laura Ciminesi and Emily Fauteux for pushing me to audition!"
Colin: "I would like to thank Mrs. Rockenhauser and Jan Fuller for helping me prepare and giving me tips! Also the BHS band and choir for listening to my pieces and supporting me!"
"What did you do while practicing that helped you be prepared for the audition?"
Molly: "I went down to Mrs. Rockenhauser's room and she helped me learn the songs."
Colin: "I talked to Mrs. Rockenhauser a lot! I worked with my private lesson teacher and took 45 minutes every day to practice each piece!"
"How did you feel going into the audition? How did you feel coming out of the audition?"
Molly: "I felt like I was going to die going in and going out."
Colin: "I felt really bad about the clarinet audition because I did some silly things, but the Cello audition went pretty well! It was stressful overall though for sure!"
"What are you most excited about when you head into Classical All State?"
Molly: "I would say making friends and connecting with old ones!"
Colin: "I'm most excited to take all the different musical instruments and put them together to make a real song, it's more fun that way then playing by yourself!"
