A new face around the high school this year is that of Mr. Jon Cannon. He lives in Dunbarton, and has wanted to join the staff here at Bow for almost ten years. He is thrilled the pieces finally fell into place. Formerly a teacher at Bedford High, he is excited to get started here at a new school, in the same district in which his kids go and one that is closer to his home. He began teaching in 2001, and has been teaching for 16 years (he took 4 years off, from 2005 to 2009). He teaches APUSH, Psychology, and Law and Ethics, and in the second semester he will begin teaching History vs Hollywood.
Mr. Cannon was born in Germany because his father was in the army, but moved to Belmont, NH, when he was just three years old. Growing up in NH, he has always enjoyed learning, and was actually on the game show Granite State Challenge when he was in high school. This turned out to be an important part of his life; as an adult, he has been involved in the production of a few game shows over the years, most notably Jeopardy!, as well as Granite State Challenge. He worked as part of the Clue Crew for Jeopardy! during his four year hiatus from teaching, and even met Alex Trebek. During his tenure on the Clue Crew, he travelled through a dozen countries and all but ten states. Now, he is the current host of Granite State Challenge, and loves that it allows people who might not be the most athletic to take part in a competitive activity while representing their schools.
Cannon says during his free time he enjoys spending time with his family and children, as well as doing house renovations and playing Dungeons & Dragons. The reason he enjoys house renovations so much is because he loved building as a kid, and at one point actually thought about becoming an architect. He played Dungeons & Dragons in high school as well, but took some years off and then played for an intersession activity five years ago and got back into it. Now, he is one of the main moderators of the Dungeons & Dragons club on Thursday afternoons in the Learning Commons. Feel free to go down and hang out with him sometime!
