Mr. Niemaszyk is one of the new science teachers here at BHS. He teaches biotech (1 and 2), anatomy and physiology, and ILS (10th grade science). He has taught at a few different schools before coming to Bow, teaching a wide range of biology courses including zoology, marine biology, and even some introductory physical science courses, similar to IPS (9th grade science). He came to Bow because of its outstanding academic reputation and investment in quality education for students. While he doesn’t currently advise any clubs or sports, he is open to it in the future and is waiting for the opportunity to come to him!
Before teaching, he worked at the Boston Aquarium where his experiences with sharing his knowledge and answering questions as well as influences from his own biology teachers in high school led him to pursue a career in teaching. When he isn’t at school, he enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities, such as kayaking, fishing, fishing while kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking. He also loves all things music and is often listening to music or creating his own on the guitar. Other hobbies include reading, woodworking, and waiting for summer.
Picking a favorite book is a common struggle, but if he had to choose, his favorite books would be The Lost City of the Monkey God, by Douglas Preston, as well as all kinds of adventure books and even autobiographies. His favorite movies include Interstellar and Dumb and Dumber.
During the school day, you can find him in room 2200, 2205, or 2208. Welcome to BHS Mr. Niemaszyk!
Ms. Koup is also one of the new science teachers at BHS. She teaches IPS (9th grade science), forensic science, and earth and climate science. While this is her first year teaching at Bow, it isn’t her first encounter with the school. In previous years, she has helped to organize intersession trips for BHS students in the White Mountains with Mr. Groves (who retired in 2021) and Ms. Guilbert. She came to teach here after those positive experiences and because she liked the number of student choices the school offers, especially in the science department. One of her favorite things about BHS is how easy it was to join the community and how much support our school offers incoming students and staff to help make the transition into a new environment easier.
She likes the fact that environmental science is the place where the physical sciences and life sciences meet and enjoys learning about how physical science supports life science. While this is her first teaching position at a public school, she has taught things like ecology, earth science, and environmental science before. Ms. Koup doesn’t advise any clubs at the moment, but she is a class advisor for the class of 2025 and is looking forward to any opportunities to get involved in student clubs in the future.
When she isn’t teaching, she loves being outside doing everything from hiking and mountain biking to skiing or gardening, as well as other things like cooking or pottery. Among her favorite books are The Overstory by Richard Powers, Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer, and the Harry Potter series. While she doesn’t watch movies often and doesn’t have a true favorite, she recently enjoyed watching the movie version of the play Hamilton.
At school, she can be found in rooms 2209, 2200, and 2201. Welcome to BHS Ms. Koup!
