Leaf Connections
Many leaves
Green, with defined ridges
Veins like spider webs
All connected to the stem
Straight and strong, but flexible
A slightly lopsided backbone
Holding the smooth and leathery.
leaves
Rows and rows
Like oars extending from a boat
Moving with the slightest breeze
Soft rustling
With an odor from the earth
Now the leaves are wobbling
A bug journeys from aft to bow
Stops and munches
Pain felt by one leaf
Pain felt by all
They are connected
Indestructible
Able to withstand wind and
storms
But by themselves
Weak
Susceptible to the smallest insect
When connected they feel each
other's pain
When apart they drift
Lost ships in the open ocean
Free from any connection
Free from any pain
But alone
Never growing
Lost
No stem to anchor them now
No one's pain for them to feel
No one to feel their pain
Drifting
Alone
